P0617 TOYOTA Description

  While the engine is being cranked, the positive battery voltage is applied to terminal Starter Control (STA) of the Transmission Control Module (TCM). If the TCM detects the Starter Control signal while the vehicle is being driven, it determines that there is a malfunction in the STA circuit. The TCM then illuminates the MIL and sets the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
