  Automatic Transmission: The Park/Neutral Safety Switch is in line with the engine starter circuit and informs the ECM whether the vehicle is in the park or neutral position. If the Park/Neutral Safety Switch is in any other position, the engine will not start. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) sets when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a high voltage signal in the Park/Neutral Safety Switch circuit.

Manual Transmission: The Neutral Safety Switch is in line with the engine starter circuit and informs the ECM whether the vehicle is in the neutral position or not. If the neutral safety switch is not engaged, the engine will not start. The DTC sets when the ECM detects a high voltage signal in the Neutral Safety Switch circuit.
