Absolute Pressure Sensor Intake Manifold Plausibility Intake Manifold Pressure Too High

Table of contents

P12A5 MINI Possible Causes

  • Faulty Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor
  • Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor harness is open or shorted
  • Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor circuit poor electrical connection

How do I fix code P12A5 MINI?

Check the “Possible Causes” listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector’s pins.

Tech Notes

  • BMW Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC): 104301

Cost of diagnosing the P12A5 MINI code

The cost of diagnosing the P12A5 MINI code is 1.0 hour of labor. The auto repair labor rates vary by location, your vehicle’s make and model, and even your engine type. Most auto repairs shops charge between $75 and $150 per hour.

Possible Symptoms

  • Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

P12A5 MINI Description

The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor is used to monitor engine load by sampling the depression in the inlet manifold. At idle speed, a large depression will exist because the throttle valve is in the idle load position and the cylinders of the engine act like an air pump against a restriction. A larger depression exists during over-run conditions because the throttle is in the idle load position and the engine speed is high. The inlet manifold depression disappears when the throttle is snapped open and the inlet manifold pressure is approximately equal to atmospheric pressure. A larger depression exists during over-run conditions because the throttle is in the idle load position and the engine speed is high.
The signal from the MAP sensor can be used for calculating the fuel injection quantity, rate of ignition advance or retard, boost pressure control, and idle speed control.
The Digital Motor Electronics (DME) diagnosis determines whether the absolute pressure, intake manifold pressure, and charging pressure sensors are all registering a single pressure reading. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is recognized when the value measured by the intake-manifold pressure sensor is too high relative to the modeled value.
