The main inputs to the model are engine speed, wheel speed, engine torque, odd clutch speed, even clutch speed and engine temperature. The model outputs are the estimated clutch temperatures and a clutch wear rate which can assume one of three values corresponding to normal, intermediate or critical wear rate. The diagnostic fails if the model estimates: A critical wear rate which means that the clutch is being damaged due to overheating.
