Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch ‘A’ Circuit Range/Performance

Table of contents

P0121 VOLVO Possible Causes

  • Faulty Throttle Position Sensor
  • Throttle Position Sensor harness is open or shorted
  • Throttle Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
  • Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

How do I fix code P0121 VOLVO?

Check the “Possible Causes” listed above. Visually inspect the related wiring harness and connectors. Check for damaged components and look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded connector’s pins.

Cost of diagnosing the P0121 VOLVO code

The cost of diagnosing the P0121 VOLVO code is 1.0 hour of labor. The auto repair labor rates vary by location, your vehicle’s make and model, and even your engine type. Most auto repairs shops charge between $75 and $150 per hour.

When is the code detected

Malfunction is detected when an excessively low or high voltage from the sensor is sent to ECM.

Possible Symptoms

  • Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

P0121 VOLVO Description

This fault code is stored in the engine control module when a malfunction is detected in the throttle control system. The driver demand is sensed via the accelerator pedal position sensor. The engine control module adjusts the throttle position accordingly and the throttle position is returned to the engine control module via the throttle position sensor. European on-board diagnostics (EOBD) compliant vehicles use at least two accelerator pedal position sensors and at least two throttle position sensors for redundancy. Failure of one circuit can easily be identified and vehicle operation will remain unaffected.
